ECG Records GH₵1.74bn Revenue in July, Pledges Better Service Delivery

The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has announced a record monthly revenue of GH₵1.74 billion in July 2025, the highest in its history. The achievement, according to the company, reflects ongoing efforts to reduce losses and enhance revenue collection.

Acting Managing Director of ECG, Engineer Julius Kpekpena, disclosed the development when he briefed Parliament’s Energy Committee on the company’s operations. “This year, July, we had our highest ever revenue in the ECG collector—GH₵1.74 billion. It’s a record, and we want to celebrate that,” he told the Committee.

Mr. Kpekpena noted that beyond revenue mobilisation, ECG is also prioritising improvements in customer service.

“We want to reduce the frustration Ghanaians face in accessing power supply and securing meters. We acknowledge some challenges in certain districts and regions, but we are streamlining our internal processes to address them, and progress is being made,” he said.

Responding to public concerns over ECG’s proposal for a 220% increase in distribution service charges, the acting MD clarified that the request would not translate into higher tariffs for customers.

“We are not asking for a 220% increase in what customers pay. Our request relates to the distribution service charge, which can be adjusted without affecting end-user tariffs,” he explained.

He argued that the current tariff structure is skewed against distribution, with ECG receiving only 12% of the tariff component instead of the expected 40%.

“We are appealing to the PURC to correct this distortion. The distribution service charge can be increased without necessarily raising what customers pay,” Mr. Kpekpena added.
