Former Vice-President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia and four other presidential hopefuls will today, Tuesday, September 23, appear before the vetting committee of the New Patriotic Party (NPP). This forms part of the processes leading to the party’s 2026 presidential primary, which will determine who leads the NPP into the 2028 general elections.
The vetting exercise is a key stage in the contest, designed to ensure transparency, fairness, and compliance with the party’s internal rules. Each aspirant will be required to present their political vision, leadership credentials, and strategies for uniting the party ahead of the national polls.
A successful vetting outcome will secure the aspirants a spot on the ballot for what is expected to be one of the most competitive flagbearership contests in recent NPP history.

-
Dr. Bryan Acheampong, former Minister for Food and Agriculture and MP for Abetifi
-
Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, MP for Bosomtwe and former Minister of Education
The outcome of the vetting will set the stage for a heated contest as the NPP seeks a successor to lead the party into the next presidential race.
