The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Christian Tetteh Yohuno, has cautioned individuals and groups planning to foment trouble during the upcoming Akwatia by-election on September 2, 2025, that the Police Service will deal with them decisively.
Speaking to recruits at the Police Training School in Kyerematen, Eastern Region, the IGP assured the public that the Service is fully prepared to safeguard peace and order during the polls.
“We want to assure Ghanaians that the police is ready to handle any situation that may arise in Akwatia. We have the men, and our eyes are red for Akwatia. Nobody should think of causing trouble,” Mr. Yohuno declared.

He cautioned political parties and individuals against mobilising supporters to disrupt the process, snatch ballot boxes, or interfere with voting. According to him, security arrangements have been reinforced, and political parties have already been briefed on the measures in place.
The IGP also disclosed that special vehicles, known as Black Marias or mobile prison trucks, will be deployed to the constituency to facilitate the immediate arrest and detention of offenders.
“We are going in with Black Marias — prisons on wheels. Anyone who attempts to cause confusion will be picked up, kept inside, and delivered straight to the cells,” he warned.
Mr. Yohuno reiterated the Police Service’s commitment to ensuring that the by-election is conducted in a safe and peaceful environment, urging all stakeholders to respect the law and allow the democratic process to proceed without interference.
