Thomas Partey Granted Conditional Bail After Rape and Sexual Assault Charges

Former Arsenal midfielder Thomas Partey has been granted conditional bail after appearing at Westminster Magistrates' Court to face multiple sexual offence charges. The 32-year-old Ghanaian footballer has been charged with five counts of rape involving two women and one count of sexual assault involving a third woman. The alleged incidents occurred between 2021 and 2022, during his time at Arsenal.

Partey was formally charged just four days after his contract with the Premier League club expired at the end of June. His next court appearance is scheduled for 2 September at the Old Bailey.

At the hearing, Partey appeared in a black zip-up jumper and trousers, carrying a navy blazer. He stood in the dock with his arms behind his back, confirming his name and acknowledging the bail conditions.

As part of those conditions, he is prohibited from contacting the three women involved in the case and must inform the police of any permanent address changes or international travel plans.

The charges stem from a Metropolitan Police investigation that began in February 2022, following an initial report of rape.

Partey’s lawyer, Jenny Wiltshire, has stated that her client "denies all the charges against him" and is looking forward to the chance to "finally clear his name."

Despite the ongoing legal proceedings, Partey is reportedly in talks to join Spanish club Villarreal on a one-year deal, with an option for a further 12-month extension.
