He urged investigators to look beyond domestic factors and consider possible external threats to Ghana’s national security.

The August 6 crash in the Adansi Akrofuom District claimed eight lives, including:

  • Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, Minister of Defence

  • Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed, Minister for Environment, Science, Technology, and Innovation

  • Muniru Mohammed, Acting Deputy National Security Coordinator

  • Samuel Aboagye, former parliamentary candidate

  • Samuel Sarpong, Vice Chairman of the NDC

  • Squadron Leader Peter Bafemi Anala

  • Flying Officer Manin Twum-Ampadu

  • Sergeant Ernest Addo Mensah


A three-day national mourning began on August 7, culminating in a memorial service on August 9. On August 10, Ghanaians bid farewell to Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed and Alhaji Limuna Muniru Mohammed, with Janazah prayers led by the National Chief Imam before their burial at the Military Cemetery.

An inter-denominational state funeral for all victims is scheduled for August 15 at the Black Star Square.
