Eight men involved in violent clashes during the Ablekuma North by-election have been convicted and fined by the Accra Circuit Court. Each was ordered to pay 500 penalty units (equivalent to GH¢6,000) or, in default, serve 24 months in prison.
The convicts — Mohammed Abubakari, Tijani Mahmudu, Prince Dzakpasu, Anas Mohammed, Mohammed Hamda, Darko Otibu Samuel, Musah Muntari, and Ali Saeed (alias Bomba) — appeared before His Honour Isaac Addo on Friday, August 29, 2025, where they all pleaded guilty.
Prosecutors said the incident occurred at the Methodist Church Polling Station during the by-election. The victims were Hawa Mavis Koomson, former Minister of State and ex-MP for Awutu Senya East; trader Majeed Mohammed Saana; and Chris Lloyd Nii Kwei, Deputy Organiser of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

According to the prosecution, the accused launched an unprovoked attack on the three, first assaulting Mrs. Koomson and Mr. Saana before turning on Mr. Kwei. Videos of the assault quickly went viral online.
They were charged with conspiracy to commit assault and three counts of assault under Sections 23(1) and 84 of the Criminal Offences Act, 1960 (Act 29).
The case, which began on Monday, August 26, was expedited after all eight admitted their involvement, resulting in their swift conviction and sentencing.
