Supreme Court Adjourns NAM1’s Bid to Halt Criminal Trial to July 29

The Supreme Court has postponed the hearing of an application filed by Nana Appiah Mensah, popularly known as NAM1, in which he is seeking to halt his ongoing criminal trial at the High Court. NAM1, the former CEO of the defunct Menzgold Ghana Limited, is asking the apex court to stay proceedings at the High Court until a final ruling is made on his appeal.

This follows a May decision by the Court of Appeal, which unanimously dismissed his earlier request to suspend the High Court trial, where he had been ordered to open his defence. Unhappy with that outcome, NAM1 appealed to the Supreme Court for relief.

During proceedings on Tuesday, July 8, court officials announced that the case had been adjourned to July 29, 2025.

NAM1, along with his companies—Brew Marketing Consult and Menzgold Ghana Limited—is facing 39 criminal charges. These include:

  • Selling gold without a licence

  • Operating a deposit-taking business without authorisation

  • Inducement to invest

  • Defrauding by false pretence

  • Fraudulent breach of trust

  • Money laundering

He has pleaded not guilty to all charges and remains on bail. The High Court trial is temporarily paused, pending the Supreme Court’s decision on his stay application.

In a separate development, NAM1 dismissed comparisons between himself and former fetish priestess-turned-evangelist Nana Agradaa, who was recently convicted and jailed for defrauding individuals. He rejected the parallels outright during media interactions.
