The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has strongly opposed plans for a rerun of the Ablekuma North parliamentary election, declaring that it won the seat decisively and has the evidence to prove it.
Speaking at a press briefing in Accra on Tuesday, July 8, the party’s General Secretary, Justin Frimpong Kodua, asserted that NPP’s candidate, Akua Afriyie, emerged victorious in the disputed contest. He called on the Electoral Commission (EC) to obey a court order by completing the collation process and officially declaring Afriyie as the elected Member of Parliament.

“We have our undeniable evidence to clearly show that we won the Ablekuma North parliamentary election,” Mr. Kodua stated. “The National Executive Committee met and decided that we will not be intimidated or forced into accepting a rerun.”
Reaffirming the party’s firm position, Kodua insisted that the NPP would not accept any outcome other than its declared victory. “We have won the elections. What we are demanding is that the Electoral Commission obeys the court, completes the collation, and announces Akua Afriyie as the MP-elect,” he emphasized.
His comments come amid rising political tension over the unresolved results in Ablekuma North, where disputes over collation and legal battles have delayed a final declaration.
In response to the ongoing controversy, the Electoral Commission has scheduled a rerun of polls in 19 polling stations on Friday, July 11, in a bid to resolve the impasse. The commission says the rerun is necessary to bring closure to the protracted electoral dispute and restore parliamentary representation for the constituency.
