The Electoral Commission (EC) of Ghana has announced a rerun of the parliamentary election in 19 polling stations within the Ablekuma North Constituency, following a dispute over the validity of results from the December 7, 2024, General Election.
In a statement dated July 2 and signed by the Deputy Chairman of Operations, Samuel Tettey, the EC explained that the decision was reached after a follow-up meeting on Tuesday, July 1, 2025, with representatives of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
The controversy arose after the NDC raised concerns about the use of scanned Pink Sheets from 37 polling stations, alleging that the documents were supplied by the NPP and lacked proper verification. The party demanded a complete rerun in all 37 affected polling stations.
In contrast, the NPP argued that only three polling station results remained to be collated and that the scanned Pink Sheets had already been endorsed by NDC agents during the collation process. The EC clarified that the scanned Pink Sheets were used after the original physical copies were destroyed during chaos at the collation centre, reportedly caused by party supporters.
After evaluating the situation, the EC concluded that 19 of the 37 scanned Pink Sheets had not been verified by the respective Presiding Officers, even though they were signed off by party agents. As such, these 19 polling stations will undergo a rerun. The remaining 18 polling station results, which were verified by both agents and Presiding Officers, will stand.
The rerun is scheduled for Friday, July 11, 2025. The EC reaffirmed its commitment to conducting a transparent, fair, and credible electoral process. The Ghana Police Service has been tasked with providing security to ensure the peaceful conduct of the exercise.
