Popular Ghanaian preacher, Prophet Dr. Kofi Oduro, has waded into the ongoing national conversation around the persistent power outages, commonly referred to as dumsor, and former President John Mahama’s recent comments on the issue.
In a strongly worded message, Prophet Oduro questioned whether merely introducing a “dumsor levy,” as suggested by Mahama, would bring real change — especially if the current leadership at the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) remains in place.
“Will the ECG bosses still be at post if we pay the dumsor levy?” he asked pointedly. “What’s the point of throwing money at a problem if there’s no accountability?”
His remarks come after Mahama, the flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), proposed the implementation of a targeted levy to help address Ghana’s worsening power crisis. While the proposal has sparked mixed reactions, Prophet Oduro believes that no amount of financial contribution will solve the issue unless systemic inefficiencies are addressed first.
