Minister for Education, Dr Matthew Opoku-Prempeh has described the Free Senior High School (SHS) programme of the Akufo-Addo-led administration as an initiate appreciated by all Ghanaians.

To Napo, as he is popularly known, only the rich are complaining that the free SHS is posing challenges to the Ghanaian Education structure.

Speaking on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen show, the Minister said the Free SHS has completely changed the face of the educational structure in Ghana and urged Ghanaians to keep supporting the programme.

“The Free SHS is appreciated by all and those murmuring are the rich. We’ve increased first year enrollment at SHS by over 90, 000 and nobody would be left behind under this NPP government,” he said.

The Minister, commenting on the double-track system as part of the free SHS, said “the rationale behind double-track system is to have more intakes at the SHS and what is happening at the SHS cannot be described as shift system.”
