There are still challenges with NHIS – NPP MP

New Patriotic Party (NPP) Member of Parliament (MP) for the Ledzokuku constituency in the Greater Accra Region, Dr Bernard Oko-Boye says he cannot be bold to defend the progress of the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) under the Akufo-Addo-led administration.

“Though there has been some improvements by the NPP government, I cannot be bold to challenge the progress of NHIS because in terms of payment, NPP and National Democratic Congress are virtually the same.”

According to the MP, who doubles as the Board chairman of the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital, there are still challenges associated with the NHIS though the NPP government is doing its best to revamp the scheme.

Speaking in an interview on Adom TV’s Badwam’s show, Wednesday, Dr Okoe-Boye reiterated that the NPP government is still committed to improve healthcare delivery in Ghana.

“I am not being honest if I say there are no challenges with the NHIS because there is more room for improvement with a lot of work left to be done.

“It is not at the level we want it to be but it is not worse than it was under the NDC and we are working harder to pay off our arrears,” he assured.

President Akufo-Addo, during the 2019 State of the Nation Address on February 21, declared the NHIS was buoyant and had come back to life with all the logistical and funding support by the current government.
