Junior Doctors Suspend Nationwide Strike After Productive Talks with Health Ministry

The Junior Doctors’ Association of Ghana (JDA-GH) has announced the suspension of its planned nationwide strike following fruitful deliberations with the Ministry of Health (MoH) and other key stakeholders.

The decision comes after a series of high-level discussions aimed at resolving grievances raised by the Association regarding delayed postings, poor working conditions, and outstanding remuneration issues.

In a statement issued by the JDA-GH, the leadership described the suspension as a gesture of goodwill, reflecting confidence in the Ministry’s commitment to implement immediate and lasting solutions to their concerns.

“After thorough deliberation and in light of assurances received from the Ministry of Health and relevant bodies, the Association has decided to temporarily suspend its intended industrial action to allow for the full execution of the agreed measures,” the statement said.

The Association, however, cautioned that the suspension is conditional, stressing that the government must honour its promises promptly to prevent any disruption to healthcare delivery.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Health has pledged to fast-track the issuance of financial clearances and postings for house officers, as well as address broader systemic challenges affecting junior doctors across the country.

The JDA-GH assured that it will continue to closely monitor the situation and will not hesitate to resume industrial action if the agreed timelines are not met.
