Five suspects arrested over murder of Chief’s brother at Asemkor


The Western Regional Police Command has arrested five individuals in connection with the murder of John Abban, brother of the chief of Butre and Asemkor, in the Agona Nkwanta District of the Western Region.


The incident occurred on October 6, 2025, when Mr. Abban was allegedly attacked and killed at Asemkor following a chieftaincy dispute.

According to the police, the suspects fled the community after committing the crime and went into hiding.


Arrests following sustained intelligence

Following days of intensive intelligence operations by the Regional Police Intelligence Directorate, three suspects — Kennedy Abor alias Abongo (30), Kojo Attah Panyi (20), and Joseph Basses (30) — were arrested on October 15, 2025, at their hideout in Funko.

Subsequently, on October 21, 2025, a joint operation involving the Western Regional and Accra Regional Intelligence Directorates led to the arrest of the two prime suspects, Abraham Cudjoe alias Yalle (39) and Ekow Painstil (45), at Afuaman Ayigbe Town in the Ga West Municipality of the Greater Accra Region.


Ongoing investigations

All five suspects are currently in police custody assisting with investigations and will be arraigned before court in due course.


Police have assured the public of their commitment to ensuring justice for the victim and maintaining peace in the area amid the ongoing chieftaincy tensions.
