Flagbearer hopeful and former Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has reaffirmed his unshakable loyalty to the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and to Ghana, citing years of personal sacrifice made in service to both.
Speaking to party supporters in Accra on Thursday, August 28, after filing his nomination, Dr. Bawumia reflected on the defining choices of his political journey — decisions he said often came at great personal and professional cost but were made out of deep commitment to the party’s cause.
“All my life, this country and this party have given me so much. I feel an overwhelming sense of duty to give back,” he stated.

He recalled resigning from the Bank of Ghana in 2008 to support the NPP’s election campaign, a gamble that did not bring immediate success but, he said, proved his loyalty. “That is why I didn’t hesitate to lay down my job at the BoG to assist the NPP’s quest for power in 2008. And indeed, I lost that gamble,” he noted.
Dr. Bawumia also referenced leaving his position at the African Development Bank in 2012 to again serve the party, as well as his pivotal role as the NPP’s lead witness in the 2013 Supreme Court election petition. “That is why I did not hesitate to take the box at the Supreme Court as the star witness in 2013 to fight for the NPP — even at the risk of mockery by our opponents,” he said.
He further pointed to his decision to concede defeat in the 2024 elections, stressing that it was made in the interest of peace and national stability. “That is why I did not hesitate to concede the 2024 elections — to preserve the nation’s peace,” he added.
Looking to the future, Dr. Bawumia assured party members and Ghanaians that his leadership would continue to be defined by courage and sacrifice.
“You can be sure that with Mahamudu Bawumia as flagbearer, I shall not hesitate to put my all on the line for the NPP and for Ghana, as I have done before,” he pledged.
