NSB Scandal: Mildred Donkor Rejects Atta Akyea, Requests New Legal Counsel

In a significant development in the ongoing National Signals Bureau (NSB) scandal, one of the accused persons, Mildred Donkor, has declined representation by prominent New Patriotic Party (NPP) lawyer, Samuel Atta Akyea. During a court hearing on Friday, July 18, Mrs. Donkor made it clear she does not wish to be defended by Mr. Atta Akyea, who currently represents all the accused individuals in the case involving the alleged theft of GH¢49 million.

The case, initiated by the Attorney General in April, involves former NSB Director-General Kwabena Adu-Boahene, his wife Mildred Donkor, and Advantage Solutions Limited. They are charged with stealing, contrary to Section 124(1) of the Criminal Offences Act, 1960 (Act 29).

According to courtroom reporting by Bernice Bessey of The Chronicle, the presiding judge asked Mrs. Donkor whether she had legal representation. In response, she publicly stated she did not and formally requested new legal counsel — a declaration made in the presence of Mr. Atta Akyea.

The court is expected to address the change in representation in the coming proceedings.
