Ghanaian gospel artiste Empress Gifty has recorded her first win in court against self-styled televangelist Nana Agradaa, following the Tema High Court’s decision to reject an attempt to dismiss the case.
On Thursday, June 26, 2025, the court ruled that Nana Agradaa’s application to throw out the case lacked merit and that she must face trial. As part of the ruling, the court also ordered her to pay GH₵ 6,000 in legal costs to Empress Gifty.
The legal dispute stems from a GH₵ 20 million defamation lawsuit filed by Empress Gifty against Nana Agradaa, who had publicly accused the singer of engaging in multiple extramarital affairs to support her luxurious lifestyle. The gospel singer claims these allegations have caused significant damage to her reputation.
During the initial hearing on June 11, Nana Agradaa’s legal team filed a motion seeking to have the case dismissed. The court postponed its decision to June 26, when it ultimately ruled in favour of Empress Gifty.
With the dismissal application out of the way, the main defamation case will now proceed in the coming weeks. Empress Gifty maintains that the accusations leveled against her were false and malicious, leading to severe reputational harm and emotional distress.
