Ghana’s Tokyo 2020 Olympic medalists Samuel Takyi to receive car, $30,000

Samuel Takyi, Ghana’s only medalists at the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games is set to receive a brand new car plus a cash sum of $30,000, Modernghana Sports can report.

This was confirmed on Friday, August 20, 2021, when the Ghana Olympic Team called on President Nana Akufo-Addo at the Jubilee House following the team’s return from Tokyo.

Samuel Takyi, 20, ended Ghana’s 29 years wait for an Olympic medal after winning the bronze medal at the Tokyo Games.

Before his feat, the West African country’s last medal had come at the Barcelona 1992 games.

To reward Samuel Takyi for ending that long wait for a medal, President Akufo-Addo has set aside a sum of $20,000 for the boxer to be utilized for the development of his career.

In addition, he is receiving $10,000 as his share of an amount rewarded to the Olympic Team. Also, the young boxer will receive a car from the government.

Meanwhile, each member of Ghana's Olympic Team is set to receive a financial reward of $5000 from the government.
